What is the ÖH Seminar?

The ÖH seminar will take place from 16.12.-18.12. online takes place. With this event we would like to give student representatives from all over Austria the opportunity to further educate themselves for their activities. Throughout the weekend, several lectures and workshops (1.5 hours to 4 hours) will be offered on various topics. So that you can set your own priorities and choose topics that belong to your areas of interest, it is possible to put together your own individual program. Just register for one or more workshops (watch out for time overlaps!). We will then send you the respective zoom links to the workshops in good time before the seminar.

Workshops and lectures are offered on a total of 34 topics from the areas of “ÖH”, “educational policy”, “social policy” and “counseling and committee work”.

1. structure of the ÖH, ÖH election, ÖH contribution Date: Friday, 16.12. 19:30-21:00; Content: How is the ÖH structured? How is the ÖH election organized and how does the representation of students within the ÖH work? What is the ÖH contribution used for?
2nd ÖH Insurance Date: Sunday, 18.12. 11:30-13:30; Content: How does the ÖH insurance work? What damages are covered and how does the settlement work?
3. ÖH Bundesvertretung: Aufgaben, Angebote, Anlaufstellen, Neuer ungen Offered twice. Date 1: Friday, 16.12. 19:30-21:00; Date 2: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00-11:00; Content: What are the tasks of the ÖH Bundesvertretung? What points of contact and services does it provide?
4. presentation ÖH student survey Will be offered twice. Date 1: Friday, 16.12. 19:30-21:00; Date 2: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00-11:00; Content: Presentation of the most important results of the ÖH student survey and discussion of possible conclusions based on the data.
5th HSG Basics for student representatives Date: Saturday, 17.12. 9:00-11:00 and 11:30-13:30; Content: Overview of the most relevant provisions of the Student Union Act (HSG) and related ordinances (HS-WO, HS-WV, HS-DVV) for the activities of student representatives.
6th HSG Basics for HV chairpersons and speakers Date: Saturday, 17.12. 9:00-11:00 and 11:30-13:30; Content: Overview of the most relevant provisions of the Student Union Act (HSG) and related ordinances (HS-WO, HS-WV, HS-DVV) for the activities of chairpersons / speakers.

8. study law at universities and colleges of education (basics) Date: Saturday, 17.12. 15:00 – 17:00 and 17:30 – 19:30; Content: Overview of the relevant laws and study regulations for universities and universities of education (especially University Act (UG) and Higher Education Act (HG))

11. Innovations in study law – from when does what apply? (Basics) Date: Saturday, 17.12. 11:30 – 13:30; Content: What are the recent changes in study law and how do they change the framework conditions for students? In particular, the “UG-Novelle” (Federal Law Gazette I No. 93/2021) and the “Weiterbildungsreform” (Federal Law Gazette I No. 177/2021) will be discussed.
12. innovations in study law – what do universities have to anchor and how can students be involved (advanced) Date: Saturday, 17.12. 9:00 – 11:00 and 11:30 – 13:30; Content: Which changes have to be anchored at universities by the “UG-Novelle” (BGBl. I Nr. 93/2021)? What will change as a result of the “Continuing Education Reform” (BGBl. I No. 177/2021)? Where can student representatives best get involved with regard to the design of study regulations at universities?
13. quality management date: Sunday, 18.12. 11:30 – 13:30; Content: How does quality assurance work at universities? Dealing with provisions of the HS-QSG and information about student quality assurance (student QA pool).
14. bologna and curricula creation Date: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00 – 11:00; Content: How can curricula be designed in relation to the contribution to a unified European higher education area in the sense of the Bologna Process?
15th Micro-Credentials Date: Sunday, 18.12. 11:30 – 13:30; Content: What are “Micro-Credentials”? What is the current plan for implementing this in Austria (based on the recommendations of the BMBWF)? Engagement with continuing education courses and life-long learning.
16. How does inflation affect universities and how are universities financed? Date: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00 – 11:00; Content: How does higher education funding work (address different higher education sectors)? What are the implications of the current record inflation for higher education financial security and operations?
17. teachers’ service law and induction phase Date: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00 – 11:00 and 11:30 – 13:30; content: elaboration of the topics of special contract and pedagogical service. Basic information on the rights and obligations of young professionals. Insight into current problem areas in the induction phase.

Social Policy Theme:
18 Climate Neutral Universities – What can universities and student representatives contribute to climate protection Date: Saturday, 17.12. 9:00 – 11:00; Content: What measures can universities take to become climate neutral? How can climate neutrality be assessed (indicators, accounting of emissions, …)? How useful is CO2 compensation?
19. FLINTA* promotion and gender awareness at universities (basics) Date: Sunday, 18.12 9:00 – 11:00 and 11:30 – 13:30; Content: Working out concepts together (FLINTA*, queer feminism, gender, patriarchy, …). How does patriarchy affect the everyday life of FLINTA* persons and how can structural discrimination be counteracted?
20. queer feminist education (advanced) Date: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00 – 11:00 and 11:30 – 13:30; Content: How can universities be designed starting from Queer Feminist theories? What scope for action and opportunities exist for student representatives both within existing structures (e.g. working group for equal opportunities issues, appointment committees) and outside of them?
21 Anti-racist education – What can and must we do? Offered twice. Date 1: Saturday, 17.12. 11:30 – 13:30; Date 2: Saturday, 17.12. 15:00 – 17:00; Content: Raising awareness about racism at universities and in everyday life. How can student representatives become active in fighting racism?
22. studying with disabilities (also for people without disabilities) Date: Saturday, 17.12. 17:30 – 19:30; Content: What barriers exist at universities? How can counseling and event offerings be designed to be as barrier-free as possible? Joint development of solution approaches.
23. mental health of students – contact points, support Date: Saturday, 17.12. 9:00 – 11:00; Content: What support services are available for students? What can universities actively contribute to the mental health of students and how can student representatives demand this?
24. demo rights and campaign work Date: Saturday, 17.12. 11:30 – 13:30; Content: How can students be mobilized for demonstrations? What should be considered when organizing demonstrations (organization, registration, possible legal consequences)?

Consulting and committee work topic area:
25. how do I advise correctly and which counseling services are needed? Date: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00 – 11:00; Content: How can students best be advised? What are some strategies for dealing with difficult/stressful cases as a counselor?
26th StudFG New – what to consider Date: Saturday, 17.12 9:00 – 11:00; Content: What are the new changes? What do you need to pay attention to now?
27th Social Training (Basics) Date: Saturday, 17.12. 15:00 – 17:00 and 17:30 – 19:30; Content: Overview of the scholarship and grant system in Austria (in particular the Study Support Act). How does the application process work? Who is eligible? What other support measures are available (e.g. ÖH Social Fund)?
28th Foreign Students – Rights, Obligations and Hurdles Date: Saturday, 17.12. 11:30 – 13:30; Content: What special provisions apply to foreign students (especially third-country students) with regard to study law and the aid system? What do you have to pay special attention to when advising foreign students?
29 Burnout is Political – Mental Health of Student Representatives Off ered twice. Date 1: Friday, 16.12. 19:30 – 21:00; Date 2: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00 – 11:00 and 11:30 – 13:30, ; Content: Especially in honorary positions and ÖH activities, the psychological stress is often high. How can mental health be taken into account in the activities of student representatives?
30. rhetoric and negotiation tactics Date: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00 – 11:00 and 11:30 – 13:30; Content: Different methods/tools should be given here.
31. overview of committee work (broken down by university sector) Date: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00 – 11:00; Content: In which committees of the university are students represented? What are their design margins? How can students assert themselves on committees, even if they are underrepresented there?
32. community management and recruitment of interested students Date: Saturday, Dec. 17. 15:00 – 17:00 and 17:30 – 19:30; Content: How do I motivate students to join the ÖH? How should the recruitment processes be designed in the context of the ÖH?
33. knowledge sharing and archiving Date: Sunday, 18.12. 9:00 – 11:00; Content: How can I pass on my knowledge to the next generation? How and where to archive knowledge?
34. public relations Offered three times.
