Panel discussion with the minister of science: Precarious work, precarious studies?

9. February 2026

For many students, studying itself is becoming a side job: 69% work alongside their studies, with the majority working more around 20 hours per week. This work is often necessary to cover their living expenses. At the same time, many students have to complete mandatory internships or gain initial work experience—usually without knowing what rights they are entitled to.

That is why the ÖH, together with FAKTory, is hosting a panel discussion on March 18, 2026, to talk about ways to improve working and studying conditions.

On the podium:

Eva-Maria Holzleitner (Federal Minister for Women, Science, and Research)
Renate Anderl (President of the Chamber of Labor)
Selina Wienerroither (Chair of the Austrian National Union of Students)
Martin Unger (Institute for Advanced Studies)
Jens Scheider (Rector of TU Wien)
