AM I INSURED?
As a member of the ÖH you’re insurance is activated with the payment of the students union fee and lasts for the entirety of the semester. If, for whatever reason, you didn’t pay the fee for the current semester, the insurance will end with the grace period of the previous semester (for summer semes-ter the period ends with 31. Oktober, for winter semester with 31. March). As a rule of thumb, you’re insured as long as your student ID is valid.
PLEASE NOTE: The ÖH is the policy holder as a contractual party to “Generali Versicherung AG”, but you are the insured party.
Therefore, it is your personal responsibility to take care of your insurance claim. The ÖH works as an intermediary and ensures a swift and smooth processing progress, but the damage claim form must be submitted personally.
CONFIRMATION OF INSURANCE
For some excursions, clinical traineeships or students exchange programs you need a confirmation of having a valid accident and general liability insurance. This confirmation can be issued by the ÖH in either German or English. To receive your confirmation, please send a mail to studierendenversicherung@oeh.ac.at, containing the following information:
- Name and surname
- Address
- Matriculation number or personal identification number (FH)
- Confirmation of registration from your academic institution
DOES THE INSURANCE POLICY COVER MY DAMAGE?
In general, all accidents and damages that took place during your activities as a student will be cov-ered by this policy. In regard to location, all accidents will be covered that either took place on uni-versity grounds or at dormitories that are sponsored by the ÖH or similar federal programs. Also included are accidents and damages that occurred during events that are directly related to your studies such as USI classes, excursions, events by the ÖH, internships, clinical traineeship or vol-untary traineeships.
The policy additionally applies to the way to and from the above mentioned locations or activities. If the intent of leaving one of those places is to satisfy basic needs (e.g.: to get something to eat), the way to and from these locations to the supermarket (or similar) also falls under the protection of the policy.
The insurance remains valid during an exchange semester and the policy applies in most countries around the globe. You can find further information in the insurance policy below.
PLEASE NOTE: The general liability and accident insurance DOES NOT APPLY in Australia, Canada or the USA.
DAMAGE CLAIM
If you want to claim your insurance, the first thing you need to do is to report the damage by filling out the damage claim form. Afterwards send the completed form with a confirmation of registration from your current higher academic institution to oeh-versicherung.at@generali.com. To accelerate the process, we recommend that you attach copies of all relevant documents and/or evidence that you are able to provide. Please note that you should always keep copies of the sub-mitted files, as they might be needed again later on.
SETTLEMENT OF DAMAGES
With the reception of the damage claim, the insurer is responsible for all further proceedings and will keep you informed. To facilitate processing, a reversed burden of proof applies. This means, that the insurer - not the insured - has to proof that the claimed damage is not covered by the insurance poli-cy. If the insurer is unable to do so the damage must be reimbursed. The aim of this agreement is to make it easier for students to lay claim to their insurance.
This agreement only applies if you supply the insurer with all relevant documents and information in a timely manner (within four weeks, except in special circumstances), otherwise it will expire. You can find more detailed information in the contract terms below
COMPENSATION/REJECTION
Following the processing of your claim, you will either receive a compensation or a dismissal. To make sure that any refusal of reimbursement is justified, a special clause was inserted to the insur-ance policy by the ÖH. The clause states, that if a student believes that the dismissal of his claim was unjustified, he/ she can contact the ÖH to initiate a re-evaluation. The ÖH will then discuss your case with the responsible project team of the insurer, making sure that any dismissal was justi-fied. If you need our support write a mail to: wiref@oeh.ac.at. Of course, the ÖH will treat the data provided as confidential.
If you have specific questions about the processing of your claim, please contact the mail address noted on the initial information or payment information that the insurer should have provided.
PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately, this insurance policy does not cover all eventualities. Because of that, the ÖH is negotiating with the insurer about including possible further insurance products (such as: foreign health insurance, musical instrument insurance, insurance for hospital interns, etc.). As soon as we are able to reach further agreements the details will be published here.
